Save the Children Sweden’s work in Eastern and Central Africa
Save the Children Sweden started working in Eastern and Central Africa in 1965. Today, we have offices in Ethiopia, Kenya and North Sudan. We support long-term child-rights based development programmes in Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan, and Rwanda.
We focus on building the capacity of local organizations and community-based structures. We work with more than 40 different non-governmental organizations and government bodies, aiming to ensure that the rights of the child are implanted at all levels.
The core of the work focuses on protecting children affected by conflict, abuse and exploitation. We also promote inclusive education for all children. We advocate for the Convention on the Rights of the Child to be domesticated into local laws, policies, budgets and systems. We also work to support children living in communities affected by HIV/AIDS. In doing that, we promote good governance, child participation, non-discrimination and a rights-based approach to development.
